While some plants consist of toxins and irritants like
calcium oxalate crystals and saponins, placing them
in a location that is out of the reach of children and
pets could be beneficial in contributing to pure air.
NASA in collaboration with the Associated
Landscape Contractors of America identified about
50 houseplants that purify air and remove pollutant
gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, radon
and other volatile organic compounds like benzene
and trichloroethylene. Here are common
houseplants that eliminate toxic materials from the
air and purify you indoor air!
Rubber Plant
The plant has leaves that stand out to be its best characteristic. While they do require small amounts of sunlight, they can manageably thrive in low-lighting too. Rubber plants grow to a considerable height and can make for beautiful indoor trees that can give a royal colour to any corner it is placed in.

The thick leaves of the plant have a large surface area
to absorbs air contaminants which makes it very
efficient in clearing up the air. A note-worthy process
of the plant is its ability to convert carbon dioxide
into oxygen by combining the carbon dioxide with
hydrogen broken down from water that was taken in
by the roots.
English Ivy
A rather charming, eye-catching plant, the English Ivy is a common houseplant that people place in certain corners of their homes because of its property to climb up the sides of buildings or trees.

English Ivies are known to rid the air of benzene,
formaldehyde, xylene and toluene which are toxins
commonly known to make people feel sick when
they spend too much time in a room. The plant also
facilitates a reduce in the amount of mold and fecal
matter particles.
Dragon Tree
The Dragon Tree also known as Madagascar Dragon Tree is another common houseplant that is often kept at office and lobby entrances. The plant acts as a great possession for home owners that primarily live in cold, dry climates.

Dragon Tree is one of the best plants to rid of
benzene, xylene and trichloroethylene from the air
indoor. A beneficial plant, it can grow in low-light, on
less water and clear the air all in a poised, royal
manner
Dracaena “Janet Craig”
The Dracaena “Janet Craig” is one of the best plants for air purification as declared by NASA in collaboration with the Associated Landscape Contractors of America. The plant is a highly adaptable one and can flourish with gardeners who don’t have a lot of time on their hands. The study by NASA specifically re-iterated the fact that low-light plants are the best to abate indoor air pollution and Dracaena “Janet Craig” gets rid of traces of organic formaldehyde and benzene.
